On Thursday, July 20, 2023, at Watercure Farm Distillery, 426 Mashamoquet Road, Pomfret Center, Connecticut 06259 will host the Tackle the Trail™ team at TackleSummer & Cool Off event. Beginning at 5 PM, runners of all levels are welcome for a group run along a portion of the Airline Trail. The run will be followed by a sample of Watercure’s offerings.
The Tackle the Trail™ race traverses 26.2 miles of the northern portion of the CT Airline Trail from Windham, CT through downtown Putnam, CT. Nestled in The Last Green Valley, a National Heritage Corridor with a rich history in a surprisingly rural landscape is the last swath of dark night sky in the coastal sprawl between Boston and Washington D.C.
The southern end of the race welcomes visitors to the historic and culturally diverse Willimantic, CT. Home to the CT State Quinebaug Valley satellite campus, which annually enters a relay team of English Language Learner students, Willimantic also is the location of Eastern CT State University. Main Street Willimantic buzzes with activity during summer Third Thursday events, bistros, and breweries. The Airline Trail is easily accessible from downtown Willimantic at the corner of Jillson Square and Union Street.
As the trail continues Northeast through the towns of Windham, Hampton, and into Pomfret, visitors can make a stop along the CT Wine Trail at Sharpe Hill Vineyard. The trail continues, crossing over and under country roads as Pomfret transitions to Putnam. The race culminates in a finish line festival at the Hale YMCA Youth & Family Center. The race coincides with Putnam’s annual Great Pumpkin Festival. Putnam is also home to several award-winning restaurants and breweries, including one of Tackle the Trail’s™ sponsors, Jessica Tuesday’s, offering alfresco dining with fireside tables, a chef-inspired menu, and original cocktails.
