On-Ground Race

A UNIQUE race in an AMAZING place!

We are RUNNING! Individuals and up to 5 person relay teams will enjoy the quiet solitude of nature with bursts of energetic and supportive volunteers at 4 relay stations throughout the 20 mile point to point race which starts in Windham and ends in Pomfret, CT. Other highlights include; Great prizes, SWAG and the most important part…knowing that proceeds help local students attend Quinebaug Valley Community College!

What to expect:

– 20 mile distance
– Start in Windham, CT – End in Pomfret, CT 
– Open to individuals and up-to 5 person relay teams 
 – Time Trail Race/Open Start Time: 8:00am – 9:30am
– Prizes and SWAG
– Must register online in advance. No race day registration.

Individuals:

  • A chipped bib will be mailed to all participants prior to race day. 
  • There will be no bag drop. Runners are responsible for their own gear. 
  • Race begins in Windham, CT and ends in Pomfret, CT. 
  • Time Trial Race/Open Start Time: 8:00am-9:30am No “shot gun” start.  As soon as an individual crosses the mat at the start line (anytime between these hours) Race is on!
  • Minimal congregating: “Drop and Go”  Only runners with bibs displayed will be allowed at relay stations.  
  • Self-serve nutrition and hydration: We will provide bars, bananas and drinks but you will need to “grab and go” yourself.
  • We encourage runners to bring their own water bottles/packs, which can be refilled at relay stations. 
  • Cash prizes for first place male and female. 
  • Winners will be announced online at race completion. 
  • Prizes will be mailed.

  • Runners are responsible for their own transportation. 
  • This is a point to point race. Please plan transportation prior to race day. 

Relay Teams:

  • All bibs will be chipped and mailed to the team captain prior to race day, for distribution to team members.
  • It will be team members responsibility to know their teammate/bib number.
  • All members must wear their own bibs (no hand-off)
  • There will be no bag drop. Runners are responsible for their own gear. 
  • Race begins in Windham, CT and ends in Pomfret, CT.

  • While we had to cancel our marathon and 1/2 marathon option for 2020, we encourage folks who wish to run a 1/2 to form a 2-person relay team!

  • Winners will be announced online at 6pm.
  • Prizes and SWAG will be mailed.  
  • This year, Tackle the Trail is a “Race for Runners” …only. As much as we love our fans, we ask individuals and teams to respect this request. Though we will miss friends and family, our volunteers will fill this void.
  • 100% touchless event. We will practice (and expect all participants) to follow all CT COVID-19 guidelines.
  • Runners are responsible for their own transportation. 
  • Parking is available at the start and finish of the race. Limited parking at each relay station. 
  • Self-serve nutrition and hydration: We will provide bars, bananas and drinks but you will need to “grab and go” yourself.
  • We encourage runners to bring their own water bottles/packs, which can be refilled at relay stations. 
  • For health concerns, runners will be responsible for their own bathrooms.
  • Refunds are not available
  • Pets or strollers are not permitted during the race
  • Follow all CT COVID-19 guidelines.
